A landmark screwball comedy from Hollywood’s golden age, My Man Godfrey follows the madcap antics of a ditzy debutante (Carole Lombard) who stumbles upon a “forgotten man” (William Powell) at the city dump. Determined to help Godfrey out, she offers him work in her household and he soon becomes the perfect butler for her eccentric family. As the family’s antics grow increasingly more absurd, it is only a matter of time before Godfrey’s secret past is revealed. Featuring brilliant comedic performances by Carole Lombard and William Powell along with Mischa Auer and Alice Brady, this timeless comedy classic was the first film ever to receive Academy Award® nominations in all four acting categories.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: There may be a sober moment or two in the picture; there may be a few lines of the script that do not pack a laugh. Somehow we cannot remember them.
Fresh: My Man Godfrey emerges with that evasive quality that is not skillful playing, writing or direction, but something that mysteriously adds itself to these things, and makes a tip-top picture.
Fresh: William Powell and Carole Lombard are pleasantly teamed in this splendidly produced comedy.
Fresh: [A] screwball masterpiece.
Make sure you get the COLOR version!
The Legend Films color version of My Man Godfrey is the one to get. It is wonderfully restored and is the definitive version of this amazing movie. It’s the one with JUST Carole Lombard on the cover. That one would be 5 Stars. The b/w is just 4.
The Power of Powell
Powell plays a down and out man who takes a job as a butler for a rich, egotistical family and wins all of their hearts. Powell carries this film, everyone else is a step behind him.
