Plot Summary

Gripping action and powerful performances by some of today's hottest stars come together in this epic story of a real-life outlaw who defied the law and inspired his people. Actor Heath Ledger (The Four Feathers, A Knight's Tale) brings a raw intensity to the role of Ned Kelly, an innocent man driven to fight the corrupt authorities oppressing his people. Joining Ned's legendary gang is his best friend, Joe, played with devilish charm by Orlando Bloom (Troy, Pirates of the Caribbean) and sexy Academy Award® nominee Naomi Watts (21 Grams, The Ring) as Ned's lover, Julia. Overnight, the Kelly Gang become heroes to their people. But as their popularity grows, they quickly find themselves the target of a ruthless lawman, (Geoffrey Rush) who soon makes them the most wanted men the world has ever known.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: There is a potent national epic struggling to find expression here, but this movie is too rushed and fragmented to do it justice. – A.O. Scott, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Rotten: Manages to shrink the grandness of the myth without clarifying our understanding of the man. – Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly, Sep 7, 2011

Fresh: Marks a welcome departure from the usual rah-rah machismo of the semi-nationalist action adventure, but Jordan never escapes the mighty shadow of The Thin Red Line. – Jessica Winter, Village Voice, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Fans of American Westerns will find plenty to like, so long as they can get their heads around the accents and the occasional wombat. – Gary Dowell, Dallas Morning News, Jun 24, 2010

I thought it was a good movie. I think it should be rated alittle higher than it is. Over all it's a good movie

Beautifully done. I believe the film is filled with expression and does the story justice. After all, were you there to know what happened A.O. Scott?
