About the Movie

Night People is a story revolving around a young American GI's kidnapping in post-World War II West Berlin by Soviets. They kidnap him in hopes of exchanging him for two ex-Nazis who double-crossed the Germans during the war, and are now in hiding in West Berlin. A CIA officer stationed in West Berlin, Col. Van Dyke (Gregory Peck), is charged with handling the crisis. The American GI's father is a very powerful businessman, Charles Leatherby, who flies to West Germany to pressure for the safe release of his son. Although Van Dyke receives a great deal of pressure from Leatherby, Van Dyke is torn by the knowledge that transferring the elderly couple to the East Germans will almost surely result in their execution.

Customer Reviews

Peck and Crawford are NIGHT PEOPLE

I'm disappointed that this title is not available for purchase in the original widescreen (Cinemascope®) presentation. Aside from the beautiful color, miraculous stereophonic sound and authentic widescreen aspect ratio presented on the 'Main Titles' track, this product has been edited (crudely) to fit a television screen.

Night people

Fast paced with a real feel for what post wwII Berlin was like. A little melodramatic but a fun watch. The faced paced dialogue might appeal to even young people that have never heard of WWII. Check out the building elevator when Buddy Ebson gets distracted.

Good cast, fast moving

Good acting from cast. Fast moving action in interesting locale. Perhaps dialogue a bit stilted but typical of this genre of movie of the period. Recommend this film for an entertaining evening. If available, I would have given 3 1/2 stars.
