About the Movie

Barkley Michaelson is in a deep life rut. He's struggling to finish his PhD thesis when his father, the learned Eli Michaelson, wins the Nobel Prize for Chemistry. Barkley and his mother, Sarah, a renowned forensic psychiatrist, now have the ill-fortune of living with a man-eating monster whose philandering ways have gotten less and less discreet. As if Barkley's world is not bad enough, on the eve of his father receiving the Nobel, Barkley is kidnapped and the requested ransom is the $2,000,000 in Nobel prize money. Needless to say, Eli refuses to pay it and so starts a venomous tale of familial dysfunction, lust, betrayal and ultimately revenge.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: An aggressively noisy exercise in style over substance about nasty people doing nasty things to one another in (sigh) Southern California. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: Nobel Son is a dreary little thriller that irritates more than it thrills. – Ruthe Stein, San Francisco Chronicle, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: Not flagrant enough to be vile, not original enough to be any good, Nobel Son does offer a rare opportunity to see Alan Rickman at his worst. – Wesley Morris, Boston Globe, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: Except for a mildly engaging heist scene in the middle of the movie, the story never gets within a mile of the Quentin Tarantino classics it tries to evoke. – Kyle Smith, New York Post, Jul 7, 2010

Freaken horrible!

Made me wont to kill myself

An awesome thrill ride!!!

This is one of those underlooked films that you want to see over and over again. The cast is awesome too.

this movie is pure and utter genius. the well crafted plot, along with its great dialogue made this movie all worth watching. the ending is one you would never expect. although there are a few moments in this movie where you think that everything has gone wrong, stick it out to the end and you'll see everything is not what it seems. 5 stars!
