Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: A trifling comedy about writer's block that aims for a blend of Richard Curtis-style cheeriness and arch literary satire, and winds up mostly drawing a blank.
Rotten: The film's ending was indeed a happy moment, but not in the intended manner.
Rotten: That convention-flouting title misleads: this winsome affair lags lamentably close to the modern romcom average.
Rotten: This Scottish romcom is a great advert for Glasgow, but it delivers an awful warning to filmmakers about shooting a script that's seriously unready.
Judge it by its cover
The only thing slightly entertaining about this film was the outfits and the overall vibe. There was so many attempts at getting it right, it ended up being overdone and superfluous.
Clever and Intelligent
I don't know why critics were so hard on this movie. I love romantic comedies and this might be my new favorite because it was entertaining without using sleaze and vulgarity to keep viewers engaged, which seems to be rare lately. It reminded me of older romantic classics that became classics because they are clever. The twists and humorous wit, as opposed to the predictable brainless banter in an increasing number of films, made this film refreshing and enjoyable.
Romance is rushed in the beginning and just not believable throughout. Had some cute ideas but they all ended up falling flat. Not worth the money. Karen Gillan is adorable, but she can’t save this.
