About the Movie

This groundbreaking cinematic event stars Tom Cruise as Jack Harper, the lone security repairman stationed on a desolate, nearly-ruined future Earth. When he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft, her arrival triggers a nonstop chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows, and leaves humanity’s fate in his hands. Academy Award®-winner Morgan Freeman joins Cruise in this “visually stunning” (Pete Hammond, Movieline), explosive story from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The agony of being a longtime Tom Cruise fan has always been a burden, but now it's just, well, dispiriting. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Apr 18, 2013

Rotten: In space, Jack hopes, someone may hear you dream. But in a movie theater, no one will see you yawn. – Richard Corliss, TIME Magazine, Dec 31, 2013

Fresh: Director Joseph Kosinski focuses on cool visuals but stints on a compelling plot. It's a dazzler, but the story lacks the impact of the futuristic look. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Apr 18, 2013

Fresh: More adventurous than your typical Hollywood tent pole, "Oblivion" makes you remember why science fiction movies pulled you in way back when and didn't let you go. – Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times, Apr 18, 2013

O. K

This isn't necessarily bad but it could've been better, the only ones that acted good were Tom and Morgan, the visual effects were kinda average the plot could've been written over night. I probably wouldn't see it again

Haunting, Visually Stunning Sci-Fi

I'll just go ahead and warn you now, this isn't one of those new, fast-paced Star Trek films. This movie takes it's time, sets up the story world and lets you get to know what it's like for these characters to live day in day out in this post apocalyptic wasteland. I enjoyed the contemplative moments Jack Harper ( Tom Cruise) had while he's repairing drones and patrolling the skies ~ all the while knowing that something isn't quite right.

Overall the acting was good and I especially liked Andrea Riseborough's character. Tom was born to play action, so it's nice to see him give an understated performance here. There are several story elements that those familiar with the genre will know, but this is still a fun movie and the striking, beautiful visuals should not be missed if you enjoy sci-fi/future fantasy stories.

Could have been better, but still

I agree it could have been so much better, but still I found it nice with a pretty good (not great plot) and the performances were solid.
