Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Inherently melodramatic, the film belongs to Ms. Shannon, who vividly etches Joanne in a full end-of-life range: funny, loving, angry, regretful, exhausted, resigned.
Fresh: Kelly's someone who knows that the biggest laughs are often the hardest to earn-the ones that come when the punchlines are delivered without a safety net.
Fresh: Strong performances from Molly Shannon and Jesse Plemons help this often flailing cancer-themed seriocomedy find its footing.
Fresh: Emotions run deep and wide here; anyone who's ever lost a parent, longed for love and acceptance, or tried to find his or her true self should easily relate. It's a terrific film.
Saw this at a film festival last month and it was amazing! The acting is uniformly great but Molly Shannon deserves all the praise as a mother dying of cancer. The movie expertly balances the expectedly sad plot with a mighty sense of humor. Cannot recommend enough!
This is an amazing movie. I laughed, I cried, and I laughed again. Molly Shannon and D'Arcy Carden (who is also in NBC's "The Good Place") are inspirational. SEE THIS MOVIE.
Other People is a genuinely funny, sweet and sad film. Molly Shannon gives the performance of her career. Jesse Plemons slowly seduces you into loving his David. The rest of the cast is just terrific.
