About the Movie

Michael Bay’s hilarious action comedy Pain & Gain is GoodFellas on steroids. When an ambitious group of personal trainers (Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie) go after the American Dream, they get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong. Now, living large will take everything they’ve got in the unbelievable true story that critics are calling outrageously entertaining.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: In between scenes of the muscleheads torturing their victim, Bay indulges his taste for treating women as sluts and grisly brutality as a nifty excuse for a cheap laugh. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, May 2, 2013

Rotten: This crude and ugly entertainment is as crass as everything this depressingly successful filmmaker has done. – Tom Charity, CNN.com, Apr 26, 2013

Fresh: While Pain & Gain often frustrates, Bay's overwhelming cinematic sense is undeniable. – Nick Pinkerton, Sight and Sound, Jun 6, 2014

Fresh: The uneasy blend of comedy and ultra-violence will turn some viewers off but, if you can stomach it, you may find yourself curiously entertained. – Rebecca Davies, Film4, Aug 29, 2013

One of the best movies ever

I went to go see it in theaters it was amazing hard to believe this was a true story

I like this movies

This movies is based on the true story about kidnapping, torture and murder and the movies is Rated R because it's had violence and a lot of bad words.
Mark Wahlberg did a good jobs playing as Daniel Lugo and Dwayne Johnson AKA The Rock was great playing as Paul Doyle.
The Jokes are funny, the plot is werid, the story is good and dialogue is good but a little bit of cliches. So I did enjoy this movies and Michael Bay directed this films and the upcoming Transformers 4 come out next summer with aslo directed this films plus Mark Wahlberg is going to play a lead role becaues it's going to be awsome.
4 stars out of 5 and Thumb Up for Pain & Gain

Wish it was different, but still good.

This was a poor choice of a story to make a movie out of, especially a Michael Bay style action movie that you want to blow your mind. Based on a real life tragedy, it would have been better if it was just made up out of the blue. That being said, the scenery, the people, the bodybuilding, the music, some comedy, and that Michael Bay style filmmaking, it's not a movie to miss, either. We only get so many of his films a year, and this was not horrible. If you're a fan of The Rock or Mark Wahlberg, even better. You will probably end up wishing it was different in different parts and different ways, but it's still a Michael Bay ride, and for me those are too few and too fun to miss.
