Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Cannily marketed as a collective experience, the Paranormal franchise works best in midnight screenings. The hunger for cold, dead chills is usually best indulged in the company of warm, living bodies. – Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times, Oct 25, 2010

Fresh: he jolts, when they come, are bigger, causing actual physical thrills and chills, at least for me. – Mary F. Pols, TIME Magazine, Oct 25, 2010

Rotten: It's simultaneously a lot more expensive and a lot cheaper. – Andrew O'Hehir, Salon.com, Oct 25, 2010

Rotten: The clumsy and obvious byproduct of the financial success of its predecessor last Halloween, this movie has no reason for existing except to provide Paramount Pictures with a few extra shekels. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Oct 25, 2010

save your money

This movie is excatly like the first one, You spend most of your time waiting for somthing to happen and then what it does its like what was that, its sorta like lighting a firework on the fourth of july waiting for the bang and seeing a fizzle. Save your money, wait for it to come out on tv and if you cant wait see the first one im sure its cheaper, after watcing the first one change the family out, add two kids and a dog, change the preacher for a superstitious nanny and boom you got POS2 oops im sorry I mean paranormal activityy 2. I was hoping they would take what was good about the first one and add more to it. Im soo angry i bought this movie i thougt it would be like the first one. If you own the first one please save your money this isnt worth it like i said its exactly the same only thing changed were the people. One last rant to the people who made this movie, if you have cameras all around your house and your dog dies for no reason wouldnt you at least check the freaking tape to see what happened? I want to see a horror movie where the people at least show commom sence and not just hey look my dog died for no reason there are crazy things going on in my home but hey there no way its related.

A thrilling, shocking, DAZZLING ride

I have to say that this one was better than the 1st one in every possible way. There was a moment which I had to watch it with the lights on and I'm not that kind of person with horror movies. The plot was well done and the acting was great too. I have to say that the first half hour is boring and boring and plane boring. After that well be prepared for lots of scares and shocking events. The ending was unexpected and I'm sure we'll see a 3rd movie coming soon. Buy this or rent this if you want a good scare.

Michael Phillips Knows Nothing

This sequel was disappointing: All they did was add a little hyperbole to the antics of the first one. If you've seen the original, you will find this to be much of the same, except it won't be scary, since, well... it's much of the same. There is far less story allotted to the characters, and so unlike the first one, there is no interesting dynamic of tension between family members: Even in the direct wake of paranormal attacks, the family seems extremely well-adjusted, which almost makes it seem like they're all just waiting to die.
