About the Movie

November 22, 1963 is a day that changed the world forever when beloved American President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas. PARKLAND is the true story behind that tragic day, told from the vantage point of individuals who are forced to make split-second decisions after this incomprehensible event. Thrust into a scenario of unimaginable consequences, the young doctors and nurses at Parkland Hospital, the Secret Service and FBI Agents, the unwitting cameraman who captured the tragedy and the Vice President respond with shock, outrage, determination and courage. Woven together, their seemingly disparate perspectives create one of the most thrilling and powerful stories never told.

Fresh: "Parkland" succeeds as it fails. For whatever its flaws, it is unforgettable. – Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times, Oct 3, 2013

Rotten: Somehow, all this commotion adds up to aimless inertia, in part because the movie lacks a point of view - let alone anything fresh to propose about the assassination or its peripheral players. – Ella Taylor, NPR, Oct 4, 2013

Where's the story

Are we still not tired of being fed up with this fiction. Make a JFK movie with info that does not follow the same line the public has been brainwashed into accepting as fact. The truth is out there and will be disclosed one day.

Different, Shallow Perspective

This is a movie that tells the tale of JFK's assassination from the perspective of several ordinary people caught up in an event that we ALL know from other perspectives. The first 25 minutes are exceptionally well done, and foreshadow the development of several characters that you very much want to get to know. You never do.

An earlier comment, stating this should have been a miniseries, seems spot on. These perspectives deserved to be developed - and the quality of direction and acting was there to do just that.

But within the allotted 93 minutes, there's simply not the time to develop the seven to ten characters featured in the movie beyond the glimpse we see. It's beautifully acted - but the story loses the tautness of the first half hour and just ends. It only hints at how this tragic event impacted the lives featured in the film before rushing to an unsatisfyingly ambiguous end (followed by the obligatory "Animal House" style quick summary of each main characters' life after the assassination.

It's very much worth watching. Just prepare to be disappointed at the shallowing out of an otherwise great dive into this heart wrenching event.

Hauntingly gripping

"Parkland" wastes no time pacing through the assassination so it can focus on its true objective: shining new light on the minor players who were unexpectedly pulled into the tragedy. The film introduces us to the lives of Zapruder, physicians, Oswald's brother and more. It juxtaposes lives traveling in different paths, yet on the same plane. "Parkland" is hauntingly gripping, and provides an engaging drama that allows you to peer into the souls of lives forever altered. Those giving this low marks seem to be conspiracy theorists seeking yet another theory film like JFK. This is a character study that takes one behind the scenes and into a different realm. If you are a serious JFK assassination buff and are open-minded, you will appreciate the intent of this film to highlight some of the minor players. If you thirst only for more conspiracy theorists and aren't interested in a scholarly look behind the scenes, don't buy it. The Robert Oswald portrayal is amazing in this film. It truly steals the show.
