About the Movie
Set in the glamour of the 1950’s post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the center of the British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock’s life until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by the scariest curse of all…love. And so begins a Gothic Romance of twists, turns and power struggles of “pure, delicious pleasure” (Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian) that is “devilishly funny and luxuriantly sensuous” (Dana Stevens, Slate).

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Anderson's movies are never coherent enough to appeal to the mainstream, but this one is so ravishing and meticulous and exquisite that you have no difficulty ignoring its inherent lack of logic.
Fresh: If this is indeed the end for Day Lewis, it is a fitting final bow. It's a treat to watch him drink your milkshake one last time.
Fresh: Day-Lewis, in what he claims to be his final role, is quite marvellous: cruel, vulnerable, humorous and preening. Impressively, Manville and Krieps hold their own.
Fresh: Krieps... gives the impression of a woman who may well be able to stand still longer than anyone else, but who, on the inside, is trembling almost imperceptibly with energy, appetite, and rage.
Customer Reviews
Openly Obsessed and Secretly Passionate
The story exposes the inspired artist and shows you what happens to one when they're faced with immovable interruption. The movie will frustrate you when facing an accurate reflection of you at your most upset and jealous moments gorgeously burned in celluloid. The music will be envious for your attention, will lure, will whisper commands, will be sure you stay involved and covered. Its motives are sufficient and so attractive its already pulled you out and placed you here.
Talk about toxic relationships
If you want a good ole’ time with two masterclasses in acting but are looking for something more bitter and treacherous then this is your film. No matter what stage your marriage is in you will learn to master those efforts as Lewis and Krieps guide you through frivolous things such as dress making and cooking. In order to reap the rewards of a relationship you must make your significant other vulnerable by any means necessary.
