During the American Civil War, a Union Army Captain (Chris Cooper) leads his ragtag cavalry troop up a misty creek to a remote farm to steal enemy livestock and supplies. The farm is owned by Sarah Anders (Patricia Clarkson), whose husband is away fighting for the Confederate Army, and her young son. When an accident forces the patrol to stay, the captain and Sarah find they have more in common than they want to admit. Thrown together by destiny, the captain and Sarah are forced to make choices beyond their control.
This is a great film with a simple, solid story. The title is a little misleading, because it is a story that takes place during a war, but it's not a traditional war story. It's about a group of people thrown together.
In the film, a small band of Union soldiers are forced to hole up at a family farm in the South when one of the men gets injured. On the farm is a woman (whose husband is away fighting for the South), her teenage son, and her small child. The heart of the story is the complicated relationship between the woman (played by Patricia Clarkson) and the officer in charge of the men (played by Chris Cooper). It's a solid story and all the actors are terrific.
Update: I just wanted to add that this film belongs in the drama category not the action category. I hope that Itunes can move it to the right category, because it is a unique film and it would be nice if it finds the right audience.
