Rotten: A movie so bad that it quickly enters the pantheon of wreckage that includes Battlefield Earth and Showgirls. – Elvis Mitchell, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Rotten: Would Benigni's Italian Pinocchio have been any easier to sit through than this hastily dubbed disaster? – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Sep 7, 2011

Rotten: A film substantially lacking in personality, energy, magic and humor. – David Rooney, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: As the wooden puppet who yearns to be human, Benigni ... is steadfastly insufferable, from his naughty, naive stage through a transformation to a state of virtue that is steeped in a self-congratulatory martyrdom and nobility. – Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times, Jun 24, 2010
