About the Movie

Egg thieves rob the nests of rare birds while a UK national police initiative named “Operation Easter” tries to stop them. The thieves are motivated not by money but by desire for the beauty of the egg and the thrill of the chase. Thousands of eggs confiscated in police raids have been found strapped under beds, beneath floorboards, and in secret rooms. With unprecedented access to the most notorious and inconspicuous perpetrators, POACHED delves into the psychology of the egg collectors as they confront their obsession.

Fresh look at obsession

The group of collectors profiled go to great risk (best. mask. ever) to add to their illicit collections but the film does an amazing job withholding judgment while keeping light tone.

This is a quirky confection of a movie with a surprisingly humane heart. By the end of the journey you're left in awe not because you know so much about illegally poached eggs, but because you actually care.

A Surprising and Wonderful Film

Poached effectively blurs boundaries, merging nature documentary and ethnographic film in a unique and challenging portrayal of a bizarre obsession. The result is a sensitive, and at times humorous film that is part psychological portrait, part natural history, and part environmental advocacy.

Poached Review: See it now and thank me later :)

This is a wonderful film. First word that comes to mind is quirky but that does not do this film justice. Beautifully shot, great soundtrack, and absolutely riveting main "characters" - makes one wonder what makes people tick. Evidently, money is not one of them, and that in itself makes this film a bit of a rarity. I've watched Poached several times and it's on my top 5 list of 2015 best documentaries. Highly recommend this!
