Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: If it's not exactly unforgettable, it's still pretty fun. – Leah Greenblatt, Entertainment Weekly, Jun 2, 2016

Fresh: It's bright, affectionate, and so keyed into our particular pop moment that it all but hurls itself into a time capsule. – Scott Tobias, NPR, Jun 2, 2016

Fresh: Front and center, carrying the film, is Samberg in what is easily the most winning film performance of his career. – Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times, Jun 2, 2016

Rotten: Too often ... it feels lazy and derivative and it's difficult to recommend something that, despite offering a few solid laughs, is instantly forgettable. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Jun 3, 2016

Drawn out, stupid humor.

I was expecting something funny like "Brooklyn 99" and was sorely disappointed. I like Andy Samberg when he's funny and has a scripted show but not this documentary comedy. I was just too drawn out, boring, and not that funny. It has some moments that made me laugh for a second but that was it. The songs were good and fit the theme of the movie I just think it could have been done different and better. It just dragged on for me and made me want to do something else. I wish I could get my money and my time back.
I know this movie has great reviews but I think people just lowered the bar on humor if this is what's funny is now. This Docu-comedy is not funny on my opinion.

Underrated and very funny

I know this movie was kind of a box office failure, but that is because most people are idiots.

This is a very funny movie that will be a cult classic for years to come.

I'm a big fan of The Lonely Island, so I was looking forward to a good laugh, but I did not expect it to be such an clever look at the music industry today! It's a very sharp, if slightly unorthodox, satire of the industry and all of the lies and gimmicks that come with it. It does not parody a single act in particular, but rather pokes fun at multiple personas and stunts that the public has become familiar throughout the years.

Solid acts, the music is witty, and the cameos are impressive. Well done, boys. 👏🏼
