About the Movie
"Precious" Jones (Gabourey "Gabby" Sidibe) is a high-school girl with nothing working in her favor. She is pregnant with her father's child - for the second time. She can't read or write, and her schoolmates tease her for being fat. Her home life is a horror, ruled by a mother (Mo'Nique) who keeps her imprisoned both emotionally and physically. Precious's instincts tell her one thing: if she's ever going to break from the chains of ignorance, she will have to dig deeply into her own resources.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Precious is an emotional powerhouse, a triumph of bruising humor and bracing hope that deserves its place among the year's best films.
Fresh: The remarkable Sidibe is one of several daring casting choices by director Lee Daniels.
Fresh: The performances of Sidibe and Mo'Nique are extraordinary and spellbinding.
Fresh: Precious ... [achieves] moments of haunting, devastating power, yet too often [lapses] into laughably ridiculous melodrama ... Precious is no easy ride. As far as harrowing films go, it makes The Road seem like The Wiz.
Tied with hurt locker for best of 09 in my book. Monique gives a terrifying performance while gabby sidibe is amazing in her debut. this film has the emotional heart the other 9 nominees lack. It may only win best supporting actress for Monique, but she's the best part so i can live with that.

The most amazing film of 2009
Precious was by far the most memorable and incredibly acted film of 2009. I saw many films in '09, but none with the intensity and raw passion of Precious. Monique showed an incredible range, and Gabourey Sidibe was truly genius. I went into this film with so-so expectations, and came away profoundly affected. I would recommend it to everybody, and hope everyone walks away realizing just how "precious" life is.
There has never been a crazy and wonderfully scripted movie until "Precious" changed that. I don't know what was the most insane part of the movie: either the great performance by Mo'Nique or the strong tranformation from Mariah Carey.
Overall, this is a powerful film, period.
