Inspirational and entertaining, Prefontaine is another acclaimed success from the makers of Hoop Dreams. It's the true-life story of legendary track star Steve Prefontaine, the exciting and sometimes controversial "James Dean of Track," whose spirit captured the heart of the nation! Cocky, charismatic, and tough, "Pre" was a running rebel who defied rules, pushed limits ... and smashed records ... in an incredible against-all-odds quest for Olympic gold! Now a major motion picture, the triumphs and heartbreaks of this unforgettable champion will have you riveted from beginning to end!

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Disappointingly colorless and squeaky-clean.
Fresh: The Super-16mm film stock gives the film a grainy look that blends in artfully with the vintage videotape of ABC's '72 Olympics coverage.
Fresh: Prefontaine gets to the finish line in reasonable shape despite plenty of sloppy running along the way.
Rotten: Though it is always pleasant and agreeable, this film has the bland and undemanding texture that characterizes movies made for network TV.
It can happen!
I'm a CC and Track runner for my school in Tampa Florida. When I first started running my freshman year, everyone laughed at me because my first race was a 26:57 5K. But now I'm number one on the team and closing in on the school record of 15:48! When I first heard of Pre, I thought to myself, "Why can't I run like that?" Now, two and a half years later, I know I can do anything! This movie is a must see for all who strive to be better, not only in running, but anything.
Without Limits is Better
I am a huge track fan and Pre was one of the greatest runners of all time. But this movie suc*ks compared to the other movie "Without Limits" which is also about Pre and I recommend that movie over this one. It is more realistic and the actors look EXACTLY the same as the real people (including all the people from other countries at the olympics) and the events are way more realistic. I would recommend everyone to see Without Limits if you haven't already seen it!
GO PRE!! Pre was the greatest distance runner of all time!!
