About the Movie
Wood and metal letters pressed into paper laid the foundation for the modern world. Once essential to communication, letterpress printing unexpectedly thrives in our digital age. Pressing On is required viewing for design centered audiences, advertising and type nerds, history buffs and documentary lovers.
Excellent story and Cinematography
A MUST WATCH.
Pressing On: The Letterpress Film is a true character study. Its not just about the wonderful interworkings and process behind the art of letterpress but the people who have kept this art alive. It has incredibly clear and informative interviews with those working in the medium today and its also a wonderful survey of machines, process, up-close looks at type, and it's well shot film too. The editing is great and so was the sound. I was waiting for this film to come out for a year or so and I am so glad that I purchased it. I will be sharing this with my friends, family and my students for many years to come.
My only hope is that there is a sequel of some kind in the future. I loved the looks into the shops like Hatch Show Print and the other studio visits in this film. Just the right amount of information, compelling stories and a bit of humor dashed in. Basically this is everything you want in a documentary. It's got me itching to continue to collect type and get back into letterpress mode.
To the creators and contributors....THANK YOU!
It’s a glimpse into a fascinating world.
