Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: As comfortable to slip into as an afternoon in the sun, as satisfying as a late-night piece of cake, Princess Cyd is a jewel of a film that plumbs thematic depths far below its surface.
Fresh: What might have devolved into cutesy odd-couple territory instead moves in unexpected directions, bolstered by a fundamental idealism.
Fresh: I can think of no higher compliment than that the film's warmth and generosity reminded me of the late Jonathan Demme.
Fresh: The performances by Pinnick and Spence are clean, vivid and honestly felt, with a lot of the best work emerging nonverbally in the spaces between characters closing a gap.
Jessie Pinnick is a Discovery!
I am super impressed by the direction and writing of Stephen Cone. He offers a pleasant perspective on coming of age and exploring sexuality. Jessie Pinnick is a wonderful discovery and will certainly be a breakout star in the coming years. I highly recommend it- Princess Cyd is one of the best films of 2017.
I really loved this movie and it’s caring and accepting tone of all types of people throughout the film. I also really enjoyed watching Cyd and her aunt’s relationship grow closer and deeper with one another.
They capture the spirit of teenage hood so well. The characters are so well developed. I loved how aunt Miranda was so loving and open minded to everything thrown her way. If only everyone had an aunt Miranda in their life growing up.
