About the Movie

On a Sunday afternoon in July, eight people’s lives become connected and forever changed by the choices one man makes. Josh thinks his only goal in going to ex-girlfriend Tess’s house is to get back his grandmother’s long-lost engagement ring... A casual day of drinking and tanning gets much more serious for Steve and Tristan once their friend Price leaves for an online “date”... Becca and Kari have always been close, but a shocking family secret causes them to reveal some secrets of their own. PROXY is a film about relationships. It’s about how individual choices can have that “butterfly effect” on other people’s lives — people we may never even meet. It’s a film that looks honestly, through the characters’ eyes, at some of the issues in our relationships that we may not want to always see or discuss — issues that have the power to either break us down or open new doors to understanding, connection and compassion. Inspired by the Danish Dogma 95 movement, different elements from the set of rules were imposed upon this film to help strip down the script to its most basic form and convey a complex story that is relatable to the audience. As these characters’ lives intertwine within the film we discover one of them is HIV positive and how their individual choices affect more than just those closest to them but, by proxy, so many others.
