Perky, perfect Carolyn (Christina Ricci) and her Alpha Omega Pi sisters plan to win Sorority of the Year by impressing the Greek Council with a killer charity: coaching mentally challenged athletes for the regional Challenged Games. When Carolyn's assigned to coach Pumpkin (Hank Harris) she's terrified at first, but soon sees in him something she's never seen before: a gentle humanity and honest clarity that touches her soul. To the horror of her friends and Pumpkin's overprotective mother (Brenda Blethyn), Carolyn falls in love, becoming an outcast in the process. As Carolyn's "perfect life" falls apart, Pumpkin teaches her that perfect isn't always perfect after all.

Rotten: Pumpkin sits in a patch somewhere between mirthless Todd Solondzian satire and callow student film.
Fresh: For all its many flaws, Pumpkin has some worthwhile ideas and funny moments, and its whacked-out heart is in the right place.
Rotten: If you believe any of this, I can make you a real deal on leftover Enron stock that will double in value a week from Friday.
Rotten: Remember: These are two hours of your life you'll never get back.
Pumpkin is pretty much a dark comedy. One of my favorite movies because it's different. It's funny and a little dramatic too. I would definitely recommend it!!!!
This is a great movie. It's funny, sad. Pretty much a Satire. Plus the music is great. Love this movie. So underrated.

LOL I love all the waspy jerk offs who have been so deeply insulted by the film, judging by the comments I've read. Just darling. Perhaps that is one of the points of the film. Its a comedy so the reality of the scenario is exaggerated, I'll give you that, but in actuality they really let you off easy ya shmucks. Sad, veiled, womb sucklers of the whitewashed, brainwashed, drone system--you should be fancied that they portrayed at least the main character to have good intentions, no matter how ignorant. FIVE STARS~for superb, applicable social commentary.
