At the heart of Oren Moverman’s RAMPART is a riveting parable about what happens to a man who refuses to change, even when change is the only thing that can save him. Officer Dave Brown (two-time Academy Award® nominee Woody Harrelson) is a Vietnam vet and a Rampart Precinct cop, dedicated to doing "the people's dirty work" and asserting his own code of justice, often blurring the lines between right and wrong to maintain his action-hero state of mind. When he gets caught on tape beating a suspect, he finds himself in a personal and emotional downward spiral as the consequences of his past sins and his refusal to change his ways in light of a department-wide corruption scandal seal his fate.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: "Rampart" patrols some familiar streets, but this jarringly intimate study of a dirty Los Angeles cop sliding, crazily, down the drain has a distinctive new-cliche smell, pungent and alive.
Fresh: Director Oren Moverman understands that Woody Harrelson is a real actor and makes movies to prove it.
Rotten: Something to see and little to remember, an acrid character study undone by narrative implausibilities and its own lack of purpose.
Fresh: Harrelson is an ideal actor for the role. Especially in tensely wound-up movies like this, he implies that he's looking at everything and then watching himself looking.
Almost as bad as his AMA on Reddit. Almost.
Rampart is not a typical hollywood blockbuster film
The film's trailer is misleading - this film is not an action romp. This film is a pure character study film. It was very incredibly well acted and interesting, very uncomfortable and sad. But please know what you are getting into, this film does not deliver a hollywood experience, it takes its time and explores a flawed character methodically. Rent it! But expect a quality big budget student film.
This is a good movie, if you are an ego maniac.
