About the Movie
From filmmaker Steven Spielberg comes the science fiction action adventure “Ready Player One,” based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name. The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

Fresh: Just as Ready Player One moves back and forth between fantasy and reality, it's difficult not to admire the facility with which Spielberg oscillates between this sort of sprawling, popcorn-munching exercise and a character-driven historical drama.
Fresh: The plot's not going to tax anyone over the age of 12, but Spielberg crams the screen with visuals eye-popping enough to make viewers not care .
Rotten: I saw the film in IMAX, and a week later I'm still waiting for the safe return of my optic nerves, but it was the meagre emotional charge that shocked me most.
Fresh: A blast of pure childlike amusement.
Just came out of the theater & was blown away... Awesome fun movie 🍿 🎥 !
Just finished watching this amazing film and by the time the credits rolled, it had dethroned my previous all-time favorite, “Gladiator”.
This movie has all the elements that make TV and Movie watching a true cinematic experience.
You will be showered with nostalgic references from your child-hood, feel energized and pumped as you cheer the underdog on and have your breath taken away by spectacular graphics.
Steven Spielberg has created a gem!
This movie will bring similar “feels” you received when you watched Netflix’s, “Stranger Things” and how you felt at the end of, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”.
It’s a ride from start to finish and when it ends, you just sit there. You think. Then you walk away smiling.
Ready Player One
Well, where to begin...I think my opinion is a good start. Ready Player One is a great (pretty faithful) adaptation of Cline’s that had me smiling all the way through and made me yell, laugh, and cheer the entire time. I’m a huge geek and this movie was MADE for me. That’s the first problem that lies within this movie. It’s made for geeks, nerds, and comic and anime junkies. People are not so much like them, will probably think that this is just an okay movie, nothing to get worked up over, so if you don’t fall within those groups of people like ME, then chances are you probably won’t enjoy this movie to the max. The second and last problem is only a few scenes with Wade’s aunt, but now onto the good stuff. Spielberg brings his A-Game here as he delivers on the spectacle and makes sure everyone does their best too. Fun Spielberg is finally back so fans of him REJOICE. Tye plays a very convincing Wade and Olivia is amazing as Art3mis. Simon, Mark, Ben, and the rest of the cast also deliver incredible performances. Alan Silvestri’s score combined with the throwback songs mix well (listen for the tiny queues). Finally, I want to end with the story and references. The story is light in some parts and that’s fine, because when it kicks into high gear, IT’S AMAZING. And the references are too many to count. Seriously, watch it, then watch it again, because chances are you’ll never spot every single reference this movie will throw at you. But in the end, what are we left with? Is it an Oscar contender? No. Is it terrible? NO. It’s a fun movie and a geeky movie and should be appreciated as one.
