About the Movie

Several hours have passed since the terrible events that ravaged the old building in Barcelona. After the chaos of the first few moments, elite soldiers infiltrated the building to put an end to this nightmare once and for all. They thought the mission was a success. Angela Vidal, the young television reporter who entered the building with the fireman just hours before, manages to make it out alive - but no one knows that within her she carries the seed of the strange infection. When she is taken to quarantine, the high-security isolation facility becomes the perfect breeding ground for the virus to be reborn and mutate into even more deadly forms, setting the scene for unimaginable horrors. The apocalypse has just begun...

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: After an underwhelming third chapter, this Spanish horror franchise largely bounces back. – Dennis Harvey, Variety, Oct 30, 2014

Fresh: As an above-average adrenaline-driven roller-coaster ride, which offsets its multiple cliches with raw, controlled energy, it works. – Jonathan Holland, Hollywood Reporter, Dec 9, 2014

Rotten: Thrilling in parts but just missing the mark in so many other aspects, Apocalypse literally ends on a confused look instead of a bang. – John Noonan, FILMINK (Australia), Jan 14, 2016

Fresh: There is plenty of ferocious tension here, but also some very well-pitched goofiness, with even a cameo from the Sumatran rat monkeys of Peter Jackson's proto-romzomcom from 1992, Braindead. – Anton Bitel, Little White Lies, Mar 2, 2015

good

its a good ending to the franchise.

A complete ad total disappointment

I absolutely loved REC 1 & 2, and although I didn’t care for the comedic elements of REC 3, I still found it to be very entertaining. This film, however, does away with everything that made the series a classic and falls into the cliched tropes of all zombie/infection films. It is well acted, and the effects are nicely implemented, but if you are going to call a film “Apocalypse”, why would you set it in such an enclosed space such as a ship? It seems like such a backwards step in the wrong direction, and everything that made REC such a great franchise was ignored. It just wasn’t a good movie; it wasn’t scary, nor interesting, and the ending left a very bad taste in my mouth. The biggest disappointment of the year, no contest.

Highly anticipated, hugely disappointed

As a REC fan, I highly anticipated this film. Yet it turned out to be a total disappointment. For starter, it lacks the suspense that made REC 1 so successful; it doesn’t have half the action/intensity of REC 3, and story - well if there is a story at all - is extremely weak and incoherent. And, as the other reviewer has pointed out, the ending is simply bad taste. The only saving grace is the acting and effects (albeit limited).
If you HAVE to watch this film, at least wait till it’s $1.99.
