About the Movie
A post-apocalyptic thriller set in the ruins of a collapsed America, REFUGE follows a family struggling to survive and rebuild a life in the wake of a catastrophic plague. Living a lonely existence, boarded up in an abandoned house, the family endures and strives to maintain a sense of normalcy amidst a lawless world of roaming gangs and dwindling resources. In hiding, they subsist on whatever sparse rations and supplies that can be scavenged from the surrounding area, while trying their best to raise an eight-year-old girl named Birdie. Keeping their distance from all others, daily existence is one of self-imposed routine and constant vigilance. One day during a scavenging run, the father, Jack, comes across an injured man and offers him refuge in their home. But they find that taking him in may have been a grave misstep, as his past may have just followed him there too.
Wild West Reborn
This movie portrays a realistic view of what is likely to occur as the structural constraints of society crumble. There are no zombies or subterranean beings but rather a realistic cross section of humanity with all the good and evil in the nature of our species . This is an excellent psychological thriller with plenty of action.
An Absolute Masterpiece
I've been waiting for a few years to watch "Refuge", first hearing about this film by Carbon Based Lifeforms (an Ambient group, who are amazing by the way, and ended up composing the soundtrack), who released the score back around the end of 2013.
The film is very atmospheric, the scenes were beautifully shot, great use of the soundtrack, the pacing was perfect, with never a scene that was too slow. I enjoyed all of the characters on screen, and was totally engrossed into each person.
If you're into media that contains "end of the world" scenarios, which this film takes to a very realistic manner, then I implore you to check out "Refuge", as this will most likely be overlooked by other films. The wait was definitely worth it and congrats to everyone that was involved with the film.
O.M.G. This film is such an eye-opener. It seems incredibly real and maybe in the near future this could be what life may be like. It has been a long time since anything has grabbed my attention in such a way. The characters—each and every one—were perfectly cast. I was also impressed with the uniqueness of the music score. Refuge definitely made my heart beat faster throughout its entirety. I'm not familiar with the producers or directors, but I must say they had to have courage to even think about producing this unusual and amazing film.
