Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Mendes has made a troubling film that wrestles with big themes and touchy subjects, even if it is set in an overly familiar milieu.
Fresh: If Revolutionary Road had been filmed back in 1961, when the novel came out, it would have been timely and powerful.
Fresh: Bolstered by Thomas Newman's score, spot-on set design and the brilliant source material, "Revolutionary Road" is a darkly effective portrait of an Eisenhower-era couple who fall tragically short of reaching Camelot.
Rotten: There is not a shred of hope, light or even life in Mendes' fourth film.
missing the point
All of the negative reviews on this movie are concerning the idea that this is in fact a sad movie. Not all movies need to make you laugh or feel good about yourself! The fact that this film provokes such emotion from the viewer is in itself proof that this is truly a great film.
The point of this movie....
People may not like this movie because it's sad, but to say it was pointless, is harsh. I think this movie did a great job of giving us a glimpse of life before "The Pill" and when Divorce was frowned upon. It questions what exactly is the American Dream, and what happens to the Human Spirit when dreams and expectations in a relationship are assumed but not met. Great Acting, and Beautiful Cinematagrphy.
It's really sad how america considers movies these days. While stupid teens are raving about Pink Panther 2 (O stars) this movie will be not reviewed and will sit there. Wake up america, great movies stare you right in the eyes and you go and buy tickets to a stupid movie!
