About the Movie

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and OmniCorp – the world’s leader in robot technology – sees a golden opportunity to reap billions for their company.  When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured, OmniCorp grabs their chance to build a part-man, part-robot police officer.  OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and will stop at nothing – no matter the cost to Alex – to make sure the program succeeds.  But OmniCorp never counted on one thing: there is still a man fighting inside the machine.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: The film has lots of energized mayhem, and Murphy's unraveling of the conspiracy against him isn't dumbed down, yet it's as if the comic-book action poetry of the original has been encased in a suit of generic armor. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Feb 13, 2014

Rotten: This Robo-reboot tries fiercely to update the satirical punch and stylistic perversity Paul Verhoeven's 1987 original. It's a futile gesture. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Feb 14, 2014

Fresh: RoboCop becomes less a work of aspirational coolness and more a piece of political satire - and not necessarily a bad one. – Eliana Dockterman, TIME Magazine, Feb 13, 2014

Rotten: There are some interesting things about "RoboCop," and - no, wait, that's a lie. – Andrew O'Hehir,, Feb 13, 2014

I really enjoyed this! People keep comparing it to the original, it's a reboot not a sequel. It takes the idea from the first and reimagines it! Plus, although I loved it, the original wasn't some deep meaningful masterpiece either. Great acting for the most part and fantastic special effects. The only problem I had with this movie is that there really isn't a true antagonist, at least not a single antagonist, but still great!

A Good Reboot Over A Great Original

In 1987, the future of law enforcement changed forever when Director Paul Verhoeven brought us the now classic Robocop. It was dark, violent, frightening & applauding at the same time. Years of below par sequels & failed television attempts have forced Hollywood to throw this in the reboot chamber & out comes Robocop (2014).

This new version of the movie greatly reduces the content of violence from the gritty original offering a watchable PG13 version. What you get however is a fair attempt at a story retold. The stars are good & try to bring their characters to life but gone is the nail biting suspense that was evident from the get go of the original. The writers have tried to write Alex Murphy's family with more depth & tried to focus on achieving a new story. When I first saw ED209 back in the original movie, I was scared stupid! The new ED209 looks great but it’s all CGI and offers no real scare factor. It has become something we have all seen before but there is nothing new.

The new Robocop is also much more stronger and faster than the old version & he is also just as vulnerable but this story is begging to go somewhere and it doesn’t go there fast enough. You also sadly only get a whiff of Basil Poledouris’ iconic Robocop theme in the beginning but the rest of the movie offers a bland score.

I have said this before and I stick to it. If you can’t top it, drop it.

Robocop is a good attempt and far better than the original’s sequels, but it does not touch the 1987 classic.

Not the original with better special effects

The movie is pretty amazing and talks about some issues that are occurring as we speak… People have to stop trying to compare it to the original. A remake is just a way to tell a new story using known characters, not just telling the same story with better special effects...
