Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Rocky II has a waxy feeling, and it never comes to life the way its predecessor did. – Janet Maslin, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: Stallone and producers Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff know from experience audiences love to root for the underdog and have concocted an irresistible final 30 minutes. – Variety Staff, Variety, Jul 25, 2010

Fresh: Sylvester Stallone's follow-up to his runaway success of 1976 is a little more threadbare in spots than the original, but it still has some conviction and spunk. – Dave Kehr, Chicago Reader, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Stallone's performance as a Philadelphia saint in a B movie physique leaves you undecided whether to gag or sob, but the final fight sequences make up for it; a full-blooded Hollywood finale reaching giddy heights of cathartic glee. – Geoff Andrew, Time Out, Aug 17, 2007

This is a great movie, but where are the others? I think all of the Rockys are great and any Rocky fan should be able to get them all!

A Rare Sequel That Is As Good As It's Predecessor...

Rocky II is actually my favorite Rocky movie. I love the fact that we get to concentrate on the characters in this one and that we get to see how great of a person Rocky is as well as how much he kicks butt in the ring! All the peeps are back for this movie and the score is just as amazing as it is in Rocky! Super-Fly TNT Fuh Sho!

The story continues...

Rocky was a huge hit, but the huge question is "Is it better or worse than it's predecessor?" Rocky II begins where the first left off, Rocky goes to a hospital after his fight with Apollo and Apollo demands a rematch. But Rocky turns his back on boxing to marry Adrian. And then he goes on a shopping spree, buying a car, a coat, and watches... even a house! But it eventually comes to an end and Rocky has to get a job. He tries a commercial actor, a meat-packer, and an office job. But nothing works. Rocky decides to go back to boxing and begins to train, but while doing this Adrian falls into a comma while having their baby, all this distracts Rocky from his training. And I'm not going to give much more away. Rocky II features a re-hash of the first montage that has rocky running up the rocky steps. Only this time, hundreds of kids are chasing him. The actors are great and it has a better feel than the first. The atmosphere has improved and if you don't like this... I'm still not talking to you.
