About the Movie
A beautiful female college student is found dead in a public park; the police soon discover that her murder may have been racially motivated. Basil Dearden’s bold, direct police procedural, starring Nigel Patrick as the detective in charge of the investigation, is a devastating look at the way bigotry crosses class divides, and a snapshot of the increasingly interracial culture of England in the late fifties.
A Beautifully Made Film
I knew this film would be very good when I watched the preview of it. It was meticulously done, performed, written, and the print is sterling. A must see. It is engaging and remarkable. A rare film. One cannot help but admire something so well made.
first came across this movie when cable was new and had old movies on late at night. been looking for it on video ever since. the subject is timeless, the performances are superb and the production is as good as it gets from the time period. while the acting style may be a bit dated, it is worth viewing more than once.
