Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Mr. Travolta is deft and vibrant, and he never condescends to the character, not even in a scene that has Tony and Stephanie arguing about whose Romeo and Juliet it is, Zeffirelli's or Shakespeare's.
Rotten: Travolta's characterization, given the script and directorial demands, is okay. It will please the already-committed; but it won't win him any new fans.
Fresh: Saturday Night Fever makes good moviemaking seem easy.
Fresh: Saturday Night Fever is wonderfully honest and completely accurate when it comes to depicting that stagnant environment that keeps young people like Tony pinned down.
I Love this movie but,.....when can I buy it?
WHEN CAN WE BUY THIS MOVIE I LOVE THIS MOVIE I WANNA BUY IT I DEMAND AN EXPLANATION
A great film
This movie came out when I was 12. I remember the impact of the soundtrack on my youth. But I didn't (couldn't) see the film until much later. After getting over the prejudice of "disco", and getting past the clothes, the hairstyles and the NY attitude, I saw a great film with great univeral messages; breaking away from family, from bad friends, breaking past boredom, chasing your dream, maturation. I still enjoy this film immensely. The late critic Gene Siskel bought the original white suit worn by Travolta, because it reminded him of a youth and an attitude he never had, but secretly wanted. Travolta even autographed it for him.
