Plot Summary

Jigsaw, the diabolical criminal who captured the imagination of horror fans in the 2004 hit Saw, returns in this equally bloody sequel. Eric Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg) is a police detective who, after discovering the aftermath of a particularly gruesome murder, is convinced that Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) is up to his ugly tricks again. Matthews' hunch turns out to be correct, but the master criminal proves to be disconcertingly easy to capture. As it happens, Jigsaw is eager to be put behind bars in order to throw the authorities off his trail as he once again punishes people who in his eyes have transgressed the boundaries of acceptable moral behavior. But instead of trapping two people in a filthy dungeon where they must engage in a terrible contest in order to win their freedom, eight people have been locked away by Jigsaw, and they must torture their bodies and minds to achieve the terrible justice Jigsaw seeks. Saw II was written by Leigh Whannell, who also scripted the first film.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: As it was in the first Saw, audiences are faced with insane leaps in logic that sabotage the last part of the film. – Peter Hartlaub, San Francisco Chronicle, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Saw II -- better-acted than its predecessor, which isn't saying much -- is so gratuitously, sadistically violent, and to such little end, that it finally falls over dead on the far side of obscene. – John Anderson, Newsday, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: At the very least, with Saw II, you get what you pay for. – Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Saw II has teeth, and this house-of-horrors franchise has legs, though they're manacled to the radiator. – Kyle Smith, New York Post, Jun 24, 2010

Great Movie

This is a great movie (as are the 1st and 3rd) right up there with Silence of the Lambs. Definitely worth buying. To those with weak stomachs, you will not like this movie. For those of you who think this is a vile piece of garbage, many people who enjoyed this movie enjoyed it because it has dynamics you don't often see in horror movies nowadays. The psychology behind Jigsaw's tests is fascinating whereas most horror movies are just Step 1: Someone goes nuts, Step 2: People die, Step 3: Insert cheesy "To Be Continued..." ending. This movie isn't like that though. And also unlike many other movies, each member of the trilogy can stand on it's own without the others. But don't take my word for it or anyone else's. Go see it yourself and form your own opinions.

LoVeD it!!!!

i loved "Saw" but when i heard about a sequel i was freaking out! When i saw it at the theaters i was so into the movie! the movie did follow up to it's predecessor and was at the same level of it. i ole this franchise and i hope it doesn't die out soon! vot "agree" if u love the "Saw" films!

Decent, but lacks what the 1st had

When I blind-bought the first Saw, I was expecting a popcorn gorefest. what I got was an amazing crime thriller/horror comparable to Silence of the Lambs. Being naive, I bought Saw II, thinking it would be what the first was. Hm... It was what I thought the first would be, a popcorn gorefest. But forget the popcorn, I don't think you will have much of an appetite after this. In conclusion, rent, but don't buy, Saw II.
