Fresh: The cinematic equivalent of prose that is clear, elegant and lyrical.
Fresh: Emotionally complex tale of a woman's confrontation with the worst of fates.
Fresh: Buried in the year-end rush but one of the year's best films.
Fresh: There is a natural tendency to appreciate movies that are neat and concise. "Secret Sunshine" makes a striking argument for the antithesis.
Despite the iTunes label, this is NOT a comedy. I wouldn't rent nor purchase a DRM version when there's a Criterion disc out there.
NO COMEDY, but good all the same.
I have always enjoyed Korean cinema. Nothing flashy or fancy like many American movies but rather an interesting story and cinematography. This movie was labeled a comedy so I downloaded without any research. After about 45 minutes I realized there was not going to be anything more funny than the awkward ramblings of 송강호.
The movie tells the heartbreaking story of a woman's decent into madness after the loss of her husband and son. 전도연 acts expertly, making me feel as though I knew her. I was honestly depressed upon completion of the movie because there was nothing I could do for character.
