About the Movie
When Master Sgt. Jerry Ensminger lost his 9 year old daughter to a rare type of leukemia, he wondered why. When the first hint of evidence about polluted wells at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune surfaced, he feared he had his answer. But he needed proof. Using unclassified documents, military contacts and other victims, he began his search for truth, justice and healing. His intelligence, intuition and "Marine spirit" brings this eco-detective story to light as he discovers the true horror that the Pentagon is the nation's single biggest polluter and the top-down cover-up is only the beginning. This dramatic, heart-breaking documentary is both a searing look at the military's betrayal of its own and an emotional story of one man's transformation into the activist he never imagined he'd become.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Pic forges a clear storyline through a sea of scientific reports, doublespeak denials and personal anecdotes (the docu snagged Tribeca's docu editing award), and a consistent picture emerges of a stonewalling military agency.
Fresh: Jerry Ensminger isn't an environmental or public health crusader as much as a grieving father.
Fresh: As a political act, Semper Fi hews closer to the spinelessness of your average elected Democrat.
Semper Fidelis MSgt.!
I'm not gonna lie, the first thing I saw was the title of this movie and that was more than enough for me to check it out. Now, after being stationed and still having friends, buddies, Marines, stationed at Camp Lejuene, this movie kinda makes me concerned for not only the drinking water of our Marine Corps bases, but the bases world wide. We spend so much money on what isn't needed, and athletes salaries and we forget that those who fight for our freedoms must be taken care of also. Because if you're not gonna fight, somebody has too. Freedom isn't free, but the Marine Corps will gladly pay your share.
This is an honest and frightening look at how our veterans and their families have been neglected! Hopefully congress will pass this legislation and give them the help and closure they deserve.
The Marine Corps has been a big part of my life for over 26 years. After viewing "Semper Fi," however, I am heartbroken. I just cannot believe that this tradegy is still not resolved.
It is truly mind boggling how the Marine Corps can continue to deny responsibility. With all of the evidence, you would think that someone would have enough moral courage to do the right thing. Just as human beings, it's the right thing to do.....but the motto Semper Fi implies an even bigger responsibility to their own.
Jerry Ensminger has turned his family's pain and heartache into something positive for so many people. He is a true hero...he absolutely has a place in heaven.
