Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: We need no further proof that this material is ageless.
Fresh: The movie is good fun, boasting a dozen vivid characters and two that moviegoers will take to heart.
Fresh: Thompson's script manages the neat trick of preserving the necessary niceties and decorum of civilized behavior of the time while still cutting to the dramatic quick.
Fresh: The sensibility may be a bit off, but there is more than enough sense involved in this mid-Atlantic Austen to make up the difference.
A great classic!
Seriously, if you are a Jane Austen fan, I totally recommend this movie to you! Kate Winslet and Emma Thomson are amazing actresses in it and they will not disappointed you!
Sense and Sensibility
This is still my favorite movie of all time. You don't have to be a Jane Austen fan. Great story, very witty screenplay, beautiful cinematography, spectacular characters, beautiful costumes--I have watched it over a dozen times and still can't tear myself away. This movie has brought me tears of joy every single time I have experienced it--it never grows old.
Sense and Sensibility
This was an excellent movie, and very faithful to the original novle by Jane Austen. Emma Thompson is wonderful as Elinor, and really makes you forget that she is too old for the part. She also proved her writing skills with a brilliant, academy-award winning screenplay. Kate Winslet also gives a stunning performance as the wildly romantic and emotional younger sister, Marianne. The supporting cast is also very good, particularly Alan Rickman as Colonal Brandon. As a warning, I will say that, on the first veiwing, this film is very slow in the beginning and demands full attention throughout. That being said, this film is one you can watch over and over again and still enjoy. I deffinately recommend a purchase.
