About the Movie
Legendary director Martin Scorsese’s Silence tells the story of two Christian missionaries (Adam Driver and Oscar® nominee Andrew Garfield) who travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor (Academy Award® nominee Liam Neeson) at a time when Christianity was outlawed. When they are captured and imprisoned, both men are plunged into an odyssey that will test their faith, challenge their sanity and, perhaps, risk their very lives.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: What beauty. What brutality. What madness.
Fresh: The movie eventually achieves a level of powerful drama...but only after dithering for more than an hour.
Rotten: For those not exulted by the inner-workings of devotion, it's a slog.
Fresh: The actors are steeped in the drama and mysticism of the moment, especially Garfield's stoic Rodrigues, who emerges as the central figure and also narrator of this journey into the unknown, both the physical and metaphysical.
Washed Up Marty
No magic. No atmosphere. No real beauty. When critics say it's great, I have to laugh. In 2017, critics are numb and guessing. They mysticism of Scorsese's last great film, Kundun, is gone. Scorsese movies are now flat. They come in on one level, leave on one level, and they don't spark. The intangible sorcery that made Who's That Knocking at My Door and Italianamerican so much more than what they appeared to be is long gone. You would think Silence would at least be intense. It isn't even that.
One of Scorsese's best, not your usual Scorsese
Just don't listen to Ponte in the review section.
An Amazing Story That Was Yet To Be Told
Martin Scorsese has made a lot of good films in his career and this one has to be one of his best. Silence has a compelling script that challenged it's actors (Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, and Liam Neeson) in ways that they, probably, were never challenged before. Andrew Garfield was so good that he even said he found Christ through his role which ,in fact, is what makes him such a good actor. Andrew couldn't have played his role to the best of his ability without finding Christ the way his character did.
The cinematography was nothing short of breathtaking. The island that they shot the film on really told the story of Japan at that time, beautiful on the outside, but evil on the inside.
Silence is gorgeous, breathtaking, emotional, and incredible.
You will not regret watching this film.
