About the Movie
In 2010 “Skinwalker Ranch” gained media attention after experiencing a wide range of unexplained phenomena. Reports ranged from UFO sightings to livestock mutilation, and most notably the disappearance of ranch owner Hoyt Miller’s (Jon Gries) 8 year old son, Cody (Nash Lucas). Modern Defense Enterprises (MDE) sent a team of experts to document and investigate the mysterious occurrences. Any skepticism quickly vanishes as the team begins to experience inexplicable incidents on their very first night on the ranch, which only escalate as things unfold – they are forced out of bed by a deafeningly loud and painful tone, an enigmatic noise they can’t explain. The next day, after an incredibly large object set off a sensor in the field, they discover a dead calf drained of all blood with almost surgical precision. This pales in comparison to what they discover while reviewing the security tapes; an image bearing the likeness of Cody, running through the same section of the house at precisely the same time each night. That night it happens right in front of their eyes, prompting Hoyt and the team to give chase all the way into an old locked shed before Cody just vanished. Inside the shed the team not only finds enormous canine tracks, but evidence that MDE had been there before back in the 1960’s. Among the evidence, a buried video tape and a steel box labeled “For Emergencies Only.” It was empty… What was in the box, and what is on the tape? What was MDE investigating the first time, why did they keep it a secret?
Very good "found footage" movie
A really enjoyable "found footage" picture with solid acting and special effects. The camera distortion is a bit over done at times and gets to be a bit overbearing and annoying, but overall this was surprisingly entertaining and kept my interest throughout. Also big wolves are cool.
One Of The Best So Far
I can identify myself as a person who’s extremely interested in conspiracy theories, especially those revolving around government alliances with aliens, ancient astronauts, cover-up stories related to top-secret, paranormal stuff that governments know about but keep under wraps, unexplained disappearances and strange occurrences.
I don’t usually watch any movie about aliens just because it revolves around the subject. I keep looking for the good stuff; the ones that talk discuss aliens in a realistic manner or something based on true events and theories rather than the typical sci-fi. I was happy to see this on the iTunes store before it’s release and I thought “I NEED TO WATCH THIS!” and though I didn’t investigate much about it, I just bought it when it came out and it was really good.
It’s not perfect. It may not be 100% factual, if at all but it’s definitely entertaining and it mixes several theories and views about extra-terrestrials. I don’t want to spoil much but the movie is similar in style to The Fourth Kind, Dark Skies and The Forgotten in terms of discussing aliens rather than Aliens or Predator. It’s one of those movies that bring you theories that do exist in real life and still cannot be proven to be 100% right but also not reason to disbelieve in them just because they don’t fit in our brains.
I advise you to watch it. Give it a try. At least a rental.
Just watch it without expecting too much. It’s not a masterpiece but it’s one of the best movies of this genre so far. It has the style of Paranormal Activity so if you’re a fan, you’ll enjoy this too.
Dull and annoying
Yet another “found footage” attempt at horror. Not worth the cost of the rental.
What bugs me about the “found footage” genre is that the story ideas are generally good, but since no one talented enough to write a screenplay can be found, the story devolves into a hodgepodge of static, jumpiness and CGI.
This possibly could have been a decent film if someone put in the effort, but they didn’t and it isn’t.
