Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Staggeringly silly and visually disordered, this unfortunate misfire has been kicking around Europe and elsewhere for a couple of years under different titles, and it's easy to see why. – Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times, Dec 15, 2016

Rotten: End up being better than it probably deserves to be, but most of the time, that's because Hopkins can really do no wrong ... except in picking his movies. – Edward Douglas, New York Daily News, Dec 13, 2016

Rotten: Solace isn't a Silence of the Lambs sequel in which Hopkins gets to reprise the role of Hannibal Lecter. But he comes pretty damn close in this ludicrous murder mystery, which is stuck somewhere between a bad season of Dexter and a dated crime flick. – Tomris Laffly, New York Magazine/Vulture, Jan 4, 2017

Rotten: The directorial pyrotechnics keep Solace from "dragging" in a narrative sense; the very real boredom it nonetheless elicits is more existential. – Glenn Kenny, RogerEbert.com, Dec 16, 2016

Great

Movie. The concept was great and the movie suspenseful. It kept you on your toes most of the movie. Don't listen to the paid reviewers. They only give positive reviews for what they are paid for.

I wish Apple would eliminate the Tomato reviews. They are meaningless and inaccurate most of the time.

Very well written Psychological Thriller. You'll be on a rollercoaster of empathy. This movie plays out through Diegesis. The cast together in the movie are amazing! Anthony Hopkins character ends in means of mimesis. I can't wait to watch it again!
