Somewhere in Time is the story of a young writer who sacrifices his life in the present to find happiness in the past, where true love awaits him. Young Richard Collier (Christopher Reeve) is approached by an elderly woman who gives him an antique gold watch and who pleads with him to return in time with her. Years later, Richard Collier is overwhelmed by a photograph of a beautiful young woman (Jane Seymour). Another picture of this woman in her later years reveals to him that she is the same woman who had given him the gold watch. Collier then becomes obsessed with returning to 1912 and the beautiful young woman who awaits him there.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: The [Grand H]otel and Mackinac [Island] are spectacularly lovely, but fail to give substance to this ephemeral endeavor.
Fresh: A charming, witty, passionate romantic drama about a love transcending space and time, Somewhere In Time is an old-fashioned film in the best sense of that term.
Rotten: The movie surrounds its love story with such boring mumbo jumbo about time travel that we finally just don't care.
Somewhere in Time
This is the movie for anyone that believes in true love. Even if you must travel through time to find that one true love. Richard Collier and Elise McKenna are a match made in Heaven. They meet and fall in love at the beautiful hotel on Mackinac Island where the movie was filmed. The music is haunting and was written by John Barry. Mr. Barry was interview once and said that the score for Somewhere in Time had been his most successful and most asked for. He had written it during the time one of his parents was ill and later had passed away. It too, had great meaning to him. Rent or buy this deeply romantic movie about love that has no boundaries. You will not be disappointed.
A timeless love
Somewhere in Time is a serendipitous excursion for the connoisseurs of fanciful daydreams and heartfelt moments of impossibility. Jane Seymour’s performance as Elise McKenna captivates and bewitches you with her beauty and charm, complemented by Christopher Reeve’s performance as a tenacious suitor, who despite realistic assertions, has a pound of gumption and a cup of ingenuity that fictitiously challenges what science falters to attempt. If Disney can bring a wooden boy to life than Richard Matheson can bridge the gap between someone’s past and another’s present. An enjoyable tale and a credit to the actors' work.
