About the Movie
8 miles outside of Ferguson Missouri lies Spanish Lake, a post WW2 suburb. The town experiences rapid economic decline and population turnover due to racism and governmental policies which support the white exodus. The themes of the film parallel America's growing political divide, racial tension, and rise of anti-government sentiment. Spanish Lake is a bold and unflinching documentary on large scale migration known as 'white flight'.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Spanish Lake is a heartbreaker, but it's got hope in it.
Fresh: A thoughtful, even-handed account of the rise and fall of the title Missouri community.
Fresh: "Spanish Lake" offers an instructive look at the forces that have shaped a single troubled community - economically, racially and otherwise.
Rotten: This is a fascinating story ... But as a movie, "Spanish Lake" misses the opportunity to include other voices.
A fabulous conversation starter!
I had watched this documentary a few weeks ago at a screening after the events of Ferguson, Missouri. I was very passionate about that story that is both astonishing and so political. Share it with friends and you are sure to have intense debates for a bunch of dinners. A must-see to make its own opinion!
Could not be more timely!
They say that once every generation there is a film that defines the general sentiment of our nation and somehow Spanish Lake has landed smack dab in the middle of this generation’s conversation about race and economic status. If you are curious how one town could play that role amidst all that is happening in Ferguson, this is the one!
Controversial and eye-opening
Spanish Lake is SO topical given everything that is happening in America right now. A powerful film that helps you to better understand the root of some of the racial issues plaguing our times.
