Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: "Special Forces" aims to inspire but ends up wallowing in melodrama.
Rotten: It's not only Americans who can make leaden, video game-style exercises in dumb war action.
Rotten: Could have been hilariously subversive if director Stephane Rybojad had pushed it further.
Rotten: An uneven effort ...
This movie can be described as simply a great french hollywood movie. Entertaining in someways, beyond feaseable in others. Anyone thats served in ground based combat units will b very upset at the obvious lack of any real tactics. 90% of what these guys did in the movie is the worst possible way to do things...Example, you dont HAHO in broad daylight with white chutes into the desert, you dont stand up on line and shoot blowing perfectly good cover, you never wear NVGs during the day on a recon as it can reflec light and you get seen. Its impossible that they would not have support on hand, every nation looking for them, Sats and isr would have picked up the firefights easy.Honestly this is a smack in the face to the SOF community...but since its french and they alays loose its okay.
Nothing like Act of Valor
The director obviously didn't spend anytime with the tactics involved in Special Operations units. Nothing like Act of Valor which used actual operators and real tactics. It honestly looked like he just took procedures that looked cool and put them in the movie. Poorly exectued French version of Act of Valor. Only thing that kept me from turning it off was I already had paid for it. Don't waste your money.
I think some of the critics from Rotten Tomatoes failed to see the beautiful scenes, awesome cinematography, and a great script. I've almost didn't rent it because of the poor reviews, but I did enjoyed this movie. The men of the Special Operations are being represented in good movies like this to show the cold harsh reality of war. Five Stars!!!
