About the Movie
Hurtling down the track, careening around, over and through the competition, Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is a natural behind the wheel. Born to race cars, Speed is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized—the legendary Rex Racer—whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill. Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer (John Goodman), the designer of Speed's thundering Mach 5. When Speed turns down a lucrative and tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company's maniacal owner (Roger Allam) but uncovers a terrible secret—some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls who manipulate the top drivers to boost profits. If Speed won't drive for Royalton, Royalton will see to it that the Mach 5 never crosses another finish line. The only way for Speed to save his family's business and the sport he loves is to beat Royalton at his own game. With the support of his family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie (Christina Ricci), Speed teams with his one-time rival—the mysterious Racer X (Matthew Fox)—to win the race that had taken his brother's life: the death-defying, cross-country rally known as The Crucible.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Even the target audience of 10-year-olds might get jimmy legs sitting for a punishing 135 minutes as the Wachowski brothers projectile-vomit their cotton-candy dreams all over the big screen.
Fresh: More than the story of the Racer family, Speed Racer is the visual autobiography of the Wachowskis and their pit crew of computer-nerd Einsteins, using the tools of their trade to transform the movie medium.
Rotten: For a movie about velocity, the excitement factor is low and the races feel like a drag.
Rotten: Twelve-year-old boys should be wowed, but for the rest of us, it will depend on your appetite for eye candy.
Don't believe what the critics say, judge it for yourself! If you're a fan of the original animated series, you'll love this movie! A whole lot of fun throughout, and even a few tear-jerker moments! Emile Hirsch gives a top-notch performance as Speed. Matthew Fox (Lost) is excellent as usual. And how can you go wrong with Susan Sarandon and John Goodman, both A-list actors. If you haven't seen it, give it a shot.. it really is a great movie!
Unjustly Underrated Movie of the Year
This movie did not deserve half of the bad reviews it got, nor did it deserve the low turnout and box-office failure status. This movie was, without a doubt, my favorite of the summer. The story, special fx and fight scenes are all highly entertaining and it's exactly what a Speed Racer movie should be: bright, colorful, fun. You won't find Casablanca quality or The Matrix depth... but why would you look for it in a Speed Racer movie? This is just pure fun for all ages and it deserves a high DVD/download sales. I love this movie, and I hope you will too! -Vincent.
