About the Movie

Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan returns with an original thriller that delves into the mysterious recesses of one man’s fractured, gifted mind. Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him - as well as everyone around him - as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Split isn't a disaster; it's just all over the place and not nearly as effective as it should be for something with such a good premise and performances. – Lindsey Bahr, Associated Press, Jan 27, 2017

Fresh: The movie's simultaneous evocation of both the depravity at work beneath society's deceptive surfaces and the inadequacy of the liberal technocratic order to defend against that depravity is the secret to its success. – Richard Brody, New Yorker, Jan 30, 2017

Fresh: The film's most positive quality is the performance turned in by James McAvoy. It's a dream role given he plays so many different characters. – Matthew Toomey, ABC Radio Brisbane, Feb 4, 2017

Fresh: Split seems at first like a venture into torture porn, but evolves into a more philosophical thriller exploring the extent to which the human mind can affect the physical world. – Nick Dent, Daily Telegraph (Australia), Feb 3, 2017

Great performance by James McAvoy makes this an outstanding hit. Non-stop thrills. You won't regret watching this film.

Furthering the Myth

This movie only serves to further the myth that anyone with a mental illness is violent.
