About the Movie

Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, and Rachel McAdams lead a critically acclaimed cast in this gripping true story about the Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation that uncovered a scandal that rocked one of the world’s oldest and most trusted institutions. Delving into allegations of child abuse within the local Catholic Archdiocese, a tenacious team of Boston Globe reporters exposes a decades-long cover-up that reaches the highest levels of Boston’s religious, legal, and government establishment. “Brilliantly acted and flawlessly directed” (New York Post ) Spotlight is a powerful and riveting drama the critics are calling “the All the President’s Men of our time” (Los Angeles Times ).

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Ruffalo gets top billing in the movie, and he brings some wonderfully lived-in behavioral details to his performance -- the quick, terrier-like movements of the head and the bitten-off sentences. – Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune, Feb 26, 2017

Fresh: Forensically written and directed with restraint, it's a film of huge social importance -- never sensationalistic, always spot on. – James Mottram, South China Morning Post, Apr 6, 2016

Fresh: This is clearly one of the year's best films and the performances of the cast cannot be faulted. – Matthew Toomey, ABC Radio Brisbane, Feb 6, 2016

Fresh: The uniformly strong ensemble cast largely avoids any grandstanding moments, and manufactured drama is swerved, while Howard Shore's sober score is applied with restraint. – Matthew Taylor, Sight and Sound, Feb 5, 2016

Customer Reviews

Everything felt so real due to the reserved directing and performances that let the story have great impact. No false overly emotional biopic moments either. Spotlight sticks to the facts and has a great ensemble that make this movie amazing

Must See

The best film of 2015. Everyone should watch this movie, this will win best picture

One of the best of 2015

This is in my Top 3 films of 2015. It's jarringly honest and doesn't fill this true coverup story with thriller tropes and cliches. That allowed the real emotion of the reality set in, I found myself near tears a few times and it wasn't because of a manipulated setup, but the fact that this actually happened.
