About the Movie

College dropout Ross (Jason Schwartzman) shows up at the bungalow of Spider Mike (John Leguizamo) in L.A.'s north San Fernando Valley looking to score some speed. Spider Mike's companions at the bungalow that day include his greasy-haired, red-eyed girlfriend, Cookie (Mena Suvari), video game addict Frisbee (Patrick Fugit) and Nikki (Brittany Murphy), a giggly Vegas stripper, whose boyfriend The Cook (Mickey Rourke) concocts the local speed supply in his airless motel room lab. Seduced by Nikki and her promise of an unending drug supply, Ross agrees to become chauffeur and errand boy for The Cook. Over the next few days, Ross ricochets between the hilarious and the bizarre as he descends into the anarchic and dangerous world of speed freaks in a three-day odyssey into crystal-meth hell.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: In Spun, the nightmare never ends for the pretty young Hollywood things like Mena Suvari and Brittany Murphy who play methamphetamine dress-up with pasted-on pimples and brushed-on bruises. – Manohla Dargis, Los Angeles Times, Jul 30, 2003

Rotten: [Akerlund] has effectively created a head-spinning, flesh-crawling milieu all his own, but Spun is ultimately short on substance and long on style. – Loren King, Chicago Tribune, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: Ultimately, plot complication and freneticism can't distract us from noticing that the movie has no insights, no point, no urgency and no importance. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Jul 30, 2003

Fresh: The movie is like the low-rent, road show version of those serious drug movies where everybody is macho and deadly. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010

The Ultimate Speed Freaks Tale

This was a great movie if you understand it, or have known an addict. The ending simply tugs at your heart strings, and the whole movie is just non-stop. Akerlund has done a fantastic job of showing the squalid life of addicts, and will (hopefully) deter anyone from touching crystal meth. I reccomend this movie to anyone that's intrested in how drugs affect one's life and brain.

Cracked out in a good way.

I can say that if you have a drug challenge don't watch this film its messy.
I love this film its one of the best real movies i have seen in a while like firecracker with Karen Black.
Or Mysterious Skin with Joseph Gordon Levitt…why isn't it on iTunes?
Oh last but not least a very raw Debbie Harry in a wonderful small role.

Wow, Great Cast and Story!!!!!!!

This movie proved to quite educational, very interesting and artistic. Now, I understand a bit more about this drug and the cause and effect. The cast is STELLAR and the movie is fast pace. Mickey Rourke is most excellent!!!!!! At his best!!!!!! PS-Brittany Murphy, RIP.
