About the Movie
America has fallen. A vampiric scourge sweeps the nation, turning brother on brother and parent on child as the blood-hungry beasts take deeper and deeper hold upon the land. It's hard for the survivors to know whether to be more afraid of the creatures themselves or the violent religious groups that have sprung up in response, but there is clearly only one choice: fight or die. Connor Paolo (GOSSIP GIRL) stars as Martin, a young man traveling with only his taciturn mentor and a hardened fighter known simply as Mister as protection against this blasted earth in search of the rumoured safe haven of New Eden. STAKE LAND establishes director Jim Mickle as a leader in the new generation of horror.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Ryan Samul's cinematography and Jeff Grace's score pick up the slack, smoothly maintaining an unstable atmosphere of lurking horror.
Fresh: Shows that a savvy mixture of characterization, atmosphere and gore-eographed suspense can make even the most familiar fright tropes feel vaguely organic again.
Fresh: Though it has plenty of shocks, the film creates a wasteland that would be compellingly deranged even without vampires pressing insistently at every border. Horror is just the half of it.
Rotten: Some numbers are too large to contemplate. How many drops of water are there in the ocean? How many grains of sand are there in the desert? How many more apocalyptic zombie movies must I sit through?
Good story, good effects, one of those hidden gems
Entertaining vampire flick.
Its well worth the watch
This film is so out of place compared to the genre I almost overlooked it. If you liked Cold in July you will like this. Its also a neat little cast that includes Kelly McGillis and the eternal beauty Danielle Harris from Halloween 4-5 fame. It has that original dawn of the dead feel to it but in small american towns. It does give the film some scope and you actually want to invest in the characters. You follow the boy and Mister through the perils of religious fanactics, vampires and very suspicious survivors. Every person I have shown the film has been blown away and liked it. Jim Mickle creates these little microcosmic worlds in his films. Im always impressed but what he can do with so little compared to the rest of hollywood. The film deserves to be seen.
