About the Movie
Six divas of the silver screen - Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis and Julia Roberts - come together as bosom buddies in this hilarious and heartwarming story of life, love and loss in a small Louisiana parish. At the center of the group is Shelby Eatenton (Julia Roberts), newly married and joyfully pregnant, despite the fact that her diabetes could make childbirth life-threatening. Terrified and angry at the possibility of losing her only daughter, M'Lynn Eatenton (Sally Field) looks to her four closest friends for strength and laughter as she battles her deepest fear of death in order to join Shelby in celebrating the miracle of new life.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: ''Steel Magnolias'' is pop entertainment of an especially condescending, superficial sort.
Fresh: Field does some spectacular underplaying through the bulk of the action, revealing layer after layer of the feelings of this kindly tempered, deeply worried mother.
Fresh: "Steel Magnolias" is essentially a series of comic one-liners leading up to a teary tragedy, but let it be said that the one-liners are mostly funny and the tragedy deserves most, but not all, of the tears.
Fresh: A good film for the soft-hearted more than the paean to womanly strength that was its motive.
A great film
A great cast ensemble, a great story, a great movie. A must see, so see it.
This is one of the best movies. You will laugh, you will cry. You will laugh while you Are crying. Watch it!
Excellent movie... But an iTunes issue
So I bought the HD version of this movie, 5 stars all the way love it.
Now to sling some mud:
When I sat down to watch this movie, I plugged the iPad into my tv, as I've done many times with rentals and purchases in the past and about 30 seconds in an error/warning message from Apple/iTunes said that I wasn't authorized to play it on my television.
Normally these things don't bug me but this one got me. No where when I purchased did it tell me I would only be able to play it on my iPad only.
Basically: Buyer beware, really crappy terms and conditions not disclosed.
