About the Movie

A chilling exploration of the Somali pirate phenomenon. The film throws the viewer, through audio recordings and found video, right into the middle of the real-life hostage negotiation of a Danish shipping vessel, the CEC Future. STOLEN SEAS is part of the documentary film series SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT. Includes an interview with the filmmaker, a hosted introduction by Somali rapper K'naan, and a short film about Dadaab - the largest refugee camp in the world.

Loved it !

A potent hybrid of fresh reportage, found footage and dramatization that sheds a bracing light on the socioeconomics of high-seas piracy.

An exceptional documentary.

I saw this Documentary in the Theaters in NY and loved it. Unlike the fictional renditions of piracy in Hollywood movies or the sensationalizing of Somali Piracy by the press - this documentary takes you on a REAL ship, held by REAL pirates in Somalia. A true eyeopening experience.

Such a compelling film. Payne's emersion into this culture gives viewers a first hand perspective on what its like to be a pirate, what motivates their choices, who they are and how their behavior effects the boating industry.
Its a complex story and Payne has first hand access.
