Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: For its two-hour-plus duration, the movie struggles to fuse incompatible concepts. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Sep 24, 2015

Rotten: The Stonewall Riots were a triumph for a marginalized community, but Emmerich fails to convey the significance of the event in any meaningful fashion. The subject matter deserves better, and so do we. – Maya Stanton, Entertainment Weekly, Sep 28, 2015

Rotten: The film is plainly a meaningful project for the openly gay Emmerich and Baitz. Stonewall carries tremendous symbolic weight for millions the world over. So why this white-bread generica? – Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune, Sep 24, 2015

Rotten: Consider "Stonewall" a place holder until a better movie arrives. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Sep 24, 2015

Rewrites history

They decided to tell a fictional story instead of the actual events. The dirving forces behind Stonewall was the trans/POC community, not a cis-white male....

Amazing

This movie was amazing. I knew it was a fictional story and I loved it defiantly going to watch it again and buy it when it releases on iTunes

Marsha P. Johnson, say her name!

This is rewriting history as someone else stated. A film is a film- I get that, but this movie is another sad example of a story being white washed. Preference towards a white hetero type jock appearance to draw in crowds. It's so typical and too common.
