About the Movie
A troubled musician seeks out an experimental therapy which calls for him to leave everything behind and take on a new identity. The musician soon realizes his new life isn't what it seems and his therapist is using patients to commit vigilante crimes.
Fantastic film, engaging cast
I was fortunate enough to see this on the big sceen during its tour around the country. It has a little of everything- action, drama, suspense, romance and just enough warm fuzzy to make you love a few characters while you'll love to hate a few others.( Cleveland Trombone- how can you not love a name like that?)
This film far surpassed my expectations, especially as an indie- see it for yourself if you don't believe me.
Suspenseful AND thought provoking - perfect combo
Watching this movie was the very last thing I did at the end of a busy and boisterous Christmas day. It was a great way to spend my evening as a gift to myself - peace and quiet, the movie STRINGS, a big bowl of popcorn and the last of the egg nog.
I don't usually like big box offices films. I tend to think they are edited based on "average Joe" focus groups responses and Hollywood politics rather than a dedication to maintaining the artistic integrity of story line. Therefore I will look high and low for films with an intriguing premise by filmmakers with indie flair. STRINGS did not disappoint. The premise of the movie asks one of life's "big questions" - one that I have thought about often in my own life. It's a movie for people who actually like to think, yet there's no lack of action and suspense. What a combo!
Highlight: Billy Harvey (a professional musician) SHINES in his role as the main character. The nuances in his facial expressions so perfectly reveal the complicated and conflicting emotions that overwhelm this character that no lines need to be said. Frankly, I loved watching him. He's a natural and I expect to see more of him on the screen. (check out Taiwan Oyster.)
Congrats to Mark Dennis and Ben Foster for pulling off a film that is both exciting AND thought provoking. Some great talent is coming out of Austin, TX. I'm looking forward to seeing what's next from these guys.
chavine is drop-dead gorgeous
the plot is entirely unbelievable, as the "solution" is actually no solution at all...so why would anyone ever consider it in the first place?? HOWEVER, the movie actually ends up working, with a nice tidy little ending that feels right, even if not entirely good. (feel-good, that is) Chavine is unbelievably gorgeous! I wish there were more of her. I'm a big fan of 'indie's", but this wasn't one of my favorites-just good enough that i don't regret watching.
