Fresh: To tell you what happens to him from here would be a tremendous disservice. We'll just say that, refreshingly, nothing about it is sickly sweet.
Fresh: A rich and moving reminder of the way professional sports aspirations can shape someone's destiny in the real world.
Fresh: Sugar, a baseball movie, an immigrant parable and a thoroughly entertaining drama that accomplishes the seemingly impossible task of putting a fresh face on the fractured American Dream.
Fresh: With the moving, absorbing drama Sugar, Boden and Fleck not only avoid the sophomore slump, they demolish it, delivering a film of rare intelligence, beauty and compassion.
I saw this movie while flying to Europe this summer. Whether you're a baseball fan, or not, this is a touching personal story about the contemporary issues of an immigrant in America. You will be absorbed by this story of how the big business of American sports can affect an entire country, and not ours. If you are a baseball fan, this movie is a MUST see, as you will gain a deep appreciation for the experience of the many Caribbean immigrant players in the game today. This movie is loaded with humor, joy, sadness and introspection. Much of the movie is subtitled, but be patient and enjoy one of the best "sleeper" movies of the year.
A good story well told
This is an exceptional story of a talented fish out of water. We all struggle, but Miguel 'Azucar' Santos struggles in his own specific way, under the tremendous pressure to lift himself and his entire family out of poverty. It's am occ truism that the more specific the details, the more universal the story. A very fine drama, you'll be glad you saw it. (I came here looking for the soundtrack after seeing the movie)
One of the best baseball movies I've ever seen. Great story, very real. The description on the front page doesn't do the movie justice, especially since "Field of Dreams" has nothing to do with it.
